What Exactly Is Astrology?

Everyone has heard of it. But what exactly is astrology, and is it a subject worth studying? Is it a true science or just a long running fraud?

Astrology is a subject that has been studied for thousands of years in all parts of the world. It is based on the idea that by studying the positions in the sky of certain constellations of stars, it is possible to predict events here on earth.

Many people believe that astrology is a false science and a fraud. If they are right in saying that, then it is indeed very remarkable how astrology could have lasted for such a long time, even into our own age. This fact alone suggests that astrology cannot be lightly dismissed.

We said that it is is based on the positions of constellations, but it would be more accurate to say it is based on the study of which ever planet, including the Sun, is in a particular constellation at any given time. Of course, the planets are not IN the constellation. We are talking about the APPARENT position of the heavenly bodies as, from the point of view of the observer on earth, they appear to move across the sky. The reason they appear to move in relation to the stars is that they are relatively close to us while the stars are almost unimaginably far away. The ancients believed that the stars were fixed in place.

Because the planets of the solar system are arranged in more or less the same plane in space around the Sun, this means that from earth, they all appear to travel along a line or band across the sky. This band is called the ecliptic. It is this ecliptic area that contains those constellations that give their names to the 12 signs of astrology, collectively called the signs of the Zodiac. The names of the constellations were originally given as a fanciful way of describing what they looked like.

The 12 signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. In its apparent motion across the sky, the Sun enters each of these constellations once a year and stays there for a month before moving on to the next one. Most people know what their star sign is, even if they do not believe in astrology. The star sign of a person is actually the constellation that the Sun was occupying on the day that they were born. Astrologers believe that the Sun sign, as it is called, gives a general indication of someone's personality type. For many people, this is all they know of astrology.

If it was that simple however, astrology would never have got off the ground. It would be absurd to say that there are only 12 types of people. The Sun sign gives only a broad indication. It is the unique positions of the other planets that astrologers believe reflects the infinite variety of different people that are living on earth. Note that astrologers do NOT believe the stars or planets control a person, but that they reflect, in some way, their personality.

The planets that are used as indicators in astrology are those that were known to the ancient world. They are Mercury, Venus, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The planet Neptune was not discovered until 1781 by William Herschel, however many astrologers include Neptune in their calculations. Some have even included the planet Pluto, which was only discovered in 1930, although others believe that it is too small and far away to be of much influence. Interestingly, there have recently been moves among the scientific community to demote Pluto from its planetary status.

Studied and used worldwide for thousands of years, Astrology is the study of the interactions among the Stars and the Planets, based on very complicated mathematical cycles.

Astrological records date back to Babylon, 1645 BC, and the earliest horoscope to 410 BC. Astrology's origins can be traced to many locations and cultures, including Egypt, which developed sophisticated timekeeping and calendar science; Greece, where Ptolemy wrote influential astrological and astronomical texts; and Rome, where many of the most learned men, including two emperors-were astrologers who fought wars, formulated laws and counseled citizens based on interpretations of The Stars.

During the Renaissance, when literacy became more widespread, almanacs published astrological information for public distribution. Several notable figures of the era, including Galileo and Copernicus, were both practicing astrologers and founders of the modern scientific movement. Despite the seemingly easy relationship between Astrology and science, however, Astrology began to lose popular credibility when myriad predictions about the great conjunction of 1524 failed to "come true."

As the Scientific Revolution surged and astronomy gained respect, Astrology and many other arts fell by the wayside. Many individuals still practiced, however, and Astrology enjoyed small a small following in England in the 1700s and 1800s. But it wasn't until the birth of Princess Margaret in 1930 that Astrology once again found widespread popularity. That year, the London Sunday Express ran an astrological profile of the princess to celebrate her birth-and so began the modern newspaper horoscope column.

In the 1950s, French astrologers Michel and Françoise Gauquelin used sophisticated statistical studies to link the positions of the Planets to human nature. Others, such as Dane Rudhyar, have expanded the study of Humanistic Astrology.

Can I Become an Astrologer?

In the ancient times, a strict code of conduct was demanded of those who practised astrology. A guru would teach astrology only to a deserving disciple who would adhere to such a code of conduct. The guru-shishya (i.e. teacher-disciple) tradition is already long over in India. With changing times, it has become difficult to find an appropriate ‘guru’ and a deserving ‘shishya’ to pursue this sacred study within the rules laid by the sages of yore. It is, however, quite in order to be aware of this ancient code of conduct. Varahamihira, the celebrated authority on astrology, prescribes the following qualifications for an astrologer.

Physical features: According to the said author, the physical feature reflects the inner nature of a man. The astrologer must be good to look at, with all his body parts complete and healthy. He should be of sound health, with sound hands, feet, nails, chin, teeth, ears, forehead and head, and heaving a loud and impressive voice.

Moral soundness: He should be truthful, gentle, bereft of cravings and aversions clean of heart, not inclined to be critical of the qualities of others, and devoid of base and worldly distractions.

Behaviour in an assembly: He should be clever, able to express himself, bold in an assembly, not intimidated by his fellow astrologers, dignified, and aware of the constraints of social and historical circumstances.

Proficiency in the subject of astrology: He should be well read, and proficient in the three branches of astrology known as the Ganita, the Samhita and the Hora. He must have studied the five Siddhantas (or mathematical treatises). His mathematical proficiency must include knowledge of the various divisions of time, from the gross ones like the Yuga to the finer ones. He must also possess knowledge of the various divisions, including the finest ones, of the zodiac.

Proficiency in various branches of astrology: The astrologer is required to possess a knowledge of different aspects of astrology which deal with propitiation of planets, rendering the planets beneficial or hostile, conducting religious ceremonies, and rituals which help neutralise the natural calamities.

Defence of astrology: The astrology must be able to answer queries, and also pose relevant questions where appropriate, when necessary, he should be able to dazzle others by his knowledge, only to increase the dignity of astrology.

More about the qualities of an astrologer: The astrologer must possess knowledge of solar, civil, nakshatric and lunar time measures; of intercalary months; of the sixty Samvatsaras, the yugas, years, months, days and Horas; of varying opinions on varying aspects of mathematical astronomy; of various dispositions of planets, including their exaltations, debilitations, fast and slow motions, there conjunctions as well as planetary warfares; of latitudes and longitude of places on the surface of the earth; of the movements of the Nakshatras; of the rising and setting of signs, Charakhandas for different latitudes, etc. He should be highly confidant and a clear expounder of the Shastras.

The sage Parashara advocates a similar code of conduct for astrologers, stressing particularly on the necessity for technical, intellectual and moral excellence; the capacity to weigh the pros and cons of a situation, along with an ability to synthesise a coherent prediction based on a sound knowledge of the principles, sometimes apparently contradictory, of astrology.

The wonder of astrology these days is that there is so much in the Western and Chinese varieties: natal, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, relationship, compatibility, love, career, pets, etc. And each of these readings can assist us. Recognizing oneself in the signs, planets, houses and aspects is a great feeling. For example, one thing about me is that I avoid housework at all costs. When my natal astrology chart was done, it said that I have almost no earth and "have trouble with everyday tasks." While this information hasn't made cleaning any less difficult, it has helped me to understand myself and feel better about this part of my personality. What a gift!

Face Reading: Several years ago, one of my friends read my face. She not only examined and measured different aspects of my face, but my head. These bumps, spaces, curves and other unique parts have meaning! Face Reading encompasses the reading of expressions and physiognomy, the determination of a person's traits by aspects of their face and its structure. My friend had studied personology, which was developed by a judge, and she had been a successful jury selector. Long story short, I experienced a very cool reading that taught me things that other readings hadn't, like the fact that my rounded forehead was an indication of original thought and creativity. At the time, I was a graphics designer, which fit this trait perfectly.

Numerology Reading: Numerology is a wonderful science that I've read about and I've also received personalized numerology reports, which were very detailed and interesting. One number that is determined in these readings is the Life Path number, which is based on the date of birth and is much like the external energy of a person's life. The energy of the person and who they are within these external happenings is indicated by the full name at birth. Forecasts can also be made from the numbers, and from the relationship between those numbers and the current date and name. My personal experience was that reading the prepared reports was eye-opening and complex in a good way, like I would be able to continue reading the reports and gain new insight each time.

Psychic Reading: I have more personal experience and education regarding psychic readings than with any other type. My numerous readings have been varied, most in person and some by phone, and include aura, past life, couple, family, rose, music, female, chakra and others. Some psychic readings have simply been asking a question of one or more readers and getting answers. Others have been focused on a particular aspect of me, such as being female. In the female readings I've received, the reader clairvoyantly looked at me as a spirit at that moment, and how much I wanted children, how much I owned my body, the lies I've been programmed with about being female, past lives when I was female and so on. More than once I discovered that the way I had been feeling, a strange something I just couldn't shake off, was not even my energy! And many times the reader was trained in psychic healing as well, and could help me let go of the energy and begin assisting me with the accompanying issue. The female and other type psychic readings I've received have given so much validation to me and my journey as a spiritual being. I highly recommend them.

Tarot Reading: There was one point in my life when I got many tarot readings. Now I usually get the ones using three cards, but then I went to a reader who did the larger spreads. I believe she used the Rider-Waite deck, but there are many decks to choose from. These readings were always encouraging and invigorating, filled with possibilities of what I could create in my life, and I enjoyed them. I have used the Inner Child deck for myself, which is fun. I believe that with tarot, as in all readings, it is interpretation that counts.

Those are the types of readings I am familiar with and know are available. There are, of course, other forms of divination such as the I Ching and Runes. Many people think that a reading all comes down to the reader, but we as "readees" are not without responsibility. Still, that's for another article. Human beings know when they need some assistance and guidance, and I believe that getting a reading is one of the most helpful and enlightening experiences we can have. And let's not forget the fact that they're entertaining!

Reading tarot cards is a pastime that has been done centuries ago, which determines possible outcomes and predictions of the future. A tarot deck can come in different themes but is basically made up of the twenty-two major arcana cards and the fifty six minor arcana. Commonly used spreads include the Celtic spread, the horseshoe spread, 3-card spread, 1-card spread, the astrological spread, and the teractycs wherein ten cards are arranged in a four-rowed pyramid. There are many other spreads aside from these which the tarot reader can use and arrange his cards the way he sees it fit.

Tarot reading is done to answer questions about anything to do with the person. Whether it would be about love or the future, the cards will either tell you directly the answer or give you a situation which discreetly answers the question. Some tarot decks require you to delve yourself into a spiritual aura and perform certain rituals in order to get an accurate reading. For my Pythagorean deck, the cards need to always be purified by the moonlight, arranged and placed in an acceptable box or bag to keep bad spirits from affecting the cards, and to offer praise to the gods in order to be able to read the tarot spread correctly and accurately. Reading tarot cards doesn't necessarily mean denouncing your faith or anything of the sort, but a way to know what may be in store for you just as Chinese and love horoscopes do.

Tarot cards can also be used for other purposes. During the 16th century in Europe, tarot cards were used to compose poetry, also called "tarocchi appropriate", to describe ladies of the court. Psychologists also use tarot cards in representing archetypes or are interpreted as pictorial representations of human development from infancy to adulthood. Some occult schools that specialize in symbolic study use tarot cards as a textbook in their teachings as well. Reading tarot cards does not only have to be for predictions or answering questions regarding future instances, but can also be a way of understanding human beings in general and the way things act and react in this world.

Reading tarot cards can be done if you're dedicated in learning the basic interpretations of each card. Though it may take some practice and a few trials, reading tarot cards can enhance your ability in interpretation and analysis in certain trivial circumstances.

If you are knowledgeable about astrology or can ask someone who is to help you, following the current positions of the planets can significantly boost your productivity. An ephemeris-that is, a table of the planets' daily positions-is a writing tool with even more muscle than a thesaurus!

FOLLOW THE DAILY MOON SIGNS: In general, writing should go well while the Moon is in Gemini each month or during the month or so each year that the Sun, Venus, and Mercury are in that sign (usually late May and most of June). You can follow these periods on a calendar that includes astrological information or by subscribing to an astrology magazine. The Moon or inner planets in Virgo are good windows for editing your work. If you write consistently and follow the planets as you do, you will doubtlessly discover which Moon signs and transits are most productive for you-the periods when you work most effortlessly and effectively-based on your own personal chart. Watch for those intervals, block off the time, and use it to the hilt.

CAPITALIZE ON MERCURY RETROGRADE PERIODS: Mercury represents all communication media, and Mercury retrograde has a bad press in popular astrology venues. To avoid the snafus popularly associated with Mercury retrograde, be certain to make copies of everything you write and regularly back up the disk. However, in my years as a writer, I have learned to make productive use of the three spans of time each year that Mercury is retrograde for about 20-25 days each. Capitalizing on the natural backward and forward rhythm of Mercury's movements can be useful to a writer. In the course of writing a book over a year or more, use these intervals to go over and refine what you've already written, rather than waiting until the end, when you are mentally exhausted, fed up with the subject and yearning to be finished.

FOLLOW YOUR CHART FOR GOOD WINDOWS: If you are advanced in astrological studies, watch the Moon as it travels through your own chart and note which signs and houses seem to correspond with your own most inspired and lucid times. Block those times off on your calendar for writing. Similarly, observe the passage of the faster moving planets, especially Mercury, through the various houses and signs to see which are most productive and then use them more consciously. For instance, schedule your annual vacation or long weekends during peak times, and get away to a quiet place if need be.

Using Astrology to Save Astronauts' Lives

Millions of astrologers around the world know that Saturn brings limitations and Jupiter brings success. Uranus brings technological advancements. (trines & sextiles are good, squares & oppositions are bad, conjunctions vary with planets). Just have a look at some of the following dates:-

4th Oct 1957: Sun and Jupiter sextile Uranus.
Sputnik I launched successfully.

3rd Nov 1957: Sun square Uranus
Sputnik II launched successfully but the dog, Laika, died after a week in orbit.

12th Apr 1961: Sun and Venus trine Uranus
First human in space, Yuri Gargarin, launches successfully.

20 Feb 1962: Sun having just opposed Uranus
Successful but there was an unexpected electronic malfunction with the heat shield warning system (Uranus rules electrical equipment).

15 May 1963: The exception: Sun square Saturn
Several things went wrong with the Project Gemini trip.
Gordon Cooper's space-suit persistently overheated.
The water supply system failed.
He felt dehydrated and dizzy.

The automatic steering refused to work and had to be operated manually.
(Note: These are all typical Saturn-related problems!)

22 Jul 1969: Jupiter exactly conjunct Uranus: First humans on the Moon
Mission successful, a giant leap for mankind. Is this beginning to form a pattern?

So, the lesson seems to be to attempt rocket launches when Uranus is favorably aspected to give the expedition the maximum chance of success.

UPDATE: August 31, 2003.

Last week, Jupiter opposed Uranus. Brazil chose August 22 (the timing is quite uncanny) to launch its third attempt at becoming a "space nation". Mars was conjoining Uranus during that week, making this period even more volatile. Definitely not a good time to be pushing the frontiers of science. The rocket exploded on Friday at a jungle base of Alcantara, in the northeastern state of Maranhao, after an engine ignited by mistake. 21 people were killed.

UPDATE: May 11, 2006.

One launch that did not seem to be avoidable was the explosion of the Challenger on January 28, 1986. The planetary aspects between themselves on that fateful day did not reveal much about the intensity of the event that was to take place. I've only recently become aware that the warning took place in the American birthchart itself. Pluto was square the American Node, but again, for technological advancement pointers we look primarily at the position of Uranus. On that day, Uranus at 20 Sag 57 was within half a degree of squaring to the American Mars at 21 Gemini 23. Uranus and Mars in bad aspect are very often involved when bad accidents occur. So, it seems that an extension to the rule is that there should be no close, hard aspects to the birthchart of the country concerned, especially those involving Uranus.

Theory to improve the success rate of Space Launches.

1. Establish the launch window-period and the proposed launch date.
2. Check that there are no hard squares and oppositions to or from Uranus in the daily planet configurations on this day, especially ones involving Jupiter and Mars.
3. Check that there are no hard squares and oppositions, especially from Uranus and Mars, to the birthchart of the country.
4. If there are hard aspects, look for another day within the period.
5. If these rules cannot be satisfied during this period, find another that does.

Scientists, we need you and you need us. Please get off your butts and take a closer look at Uranus. I know you think you have defined "nearly everything", but when you start looking under the hood you will realise that you are not even close. By the way, Jupiter next conjuncts Uranus around June 7, 2010 (last conjunction Jan 4, 2011). You can expect an exciting discovery or event around that time. I'm betting on scientists, at their best, finding proof of the existence of life elsewhere in the galaxy by that time, or at least man landing successfully on another planet or one of it's moons.

Please feel free to have a good laugh at me (preferably publicly). Nobody ever perfected anything the first few times. I don't have to remind you how The New York Times and other media ridiculed Robert Goddard in the 1920's. Gut-wrenching, belly laughter as his first liquid-propellant rockets rose a few metres and crashed back into his Aunt Effie's vegetable patch. How he was banned from testing his rockets because of complaints about the noise and forced to test them in Roswell, New Mexico at his own (and Charles Lindbergh's) expense.

UPDATE Aug 2006: Around mid-month, Jupiter started to move in to a trine (120 degree) position to Uranus. I made a point of taking note of the technological advancements that were sure to arise during this period. Here are some of them:

Tues, Aug 11: Gregory Perelman hailed as one of the greatest minds on the planet, after solving the century-old mathematical riddle, the Poincare Conjecture.

Thur, Aug 13: Scientists announced a breakthrough (typical Jup/Ura) in stem cell research, now requiring only a single cell from a 3-day old embryo to grow stem cells.

London: It emerged this week that scientists have found indications of life-forms in a meteorite from the Red Planet. Tiny tunnels in the rock are believed to have been bored by micro-organisms.

UPDATE Sep 2006: The launch of the Atlantis shuttle is scheduled to take place before September 7. At that stage Jupiter will still be within a 1.5 degrees of trining Uranus. This broad horary alignment will pretty much assure a successful mission. - (Glad to report in hindsight that there were no problems).

Scorpio, Libra, and Virgo Might Be Connected to the Ancients Judgment Scenes - Egyptian Astrology

The history which we use today in our modern astrology reports actually descends from the Greeks interpretation of the Egyptians belief and other older societies.

I have the suspicion that the judgment scene especially from ancient Egypt is probably connected to the three zodiac signs called; Scorpio, and Libra, and Virgo.

These three signs are not so easy to interpret, there seems to be much more to them than meets the eye. In the ancient days of the Egyptians and other older cultures, they did not entirely use our modern version of the zodiac, even thou they were the creators of it. Actually the same Ptolemy family line which helped to write the New Testament also changed the zodiac very much from the old Egyptians conceptions of the heavens, especially the visual one.

Libra the Claw of Scorpio

Back in ancient days, Scorpio and Libra were actually one constellation. Libra is the claws of Scorpio, and the Scorpions heart is more important than its physical being. Libra is an empty space of unimportant stars and more, but though its reach to Virgos hand, it glows of justice. The part which you have just read, simply means; That the ancient people adored the "Heart of Scorpio," which is the star 'Antares'. Libra becomes an instrument of justice through the hand of Virgo, which is the star 'Spica.'

Even thou I like to read about the ancient cultures, I find myself equally drawn to the real astronomic constellations and their real existences. I have tried to make some small video clips which illustrate how the constellations have changes in their visual look through the centuries.

Manifestation Signs - It's Working!

When working to manifest a specific desire, there will almost always be "signs" that the universe has received your request. It's like the confirmation email you get after placing an order online: "We received your order and it's in process. We'll email again when we ship it."

However, the "signs" that come with manifestation efforts usually aren't quite so obvious. But with practice you can learn to recognize and decipher these subtle messages and use them to strengthen your faith and stay aligned with the formation of your desires.

If you've never received any of these signs, you may be wondering what I'm talking about. So let's use an example to show how it usually works.

Imagine that you wanted to manifest a new vehicle, a Ford Mustang. You've put together all the details in your mind and it's so real you can almost feel yourself sitting in the driver's seat. You can smell the leather interior and the wind in your hair as you joyfully drive your new toy. You write out all the details that you want this car to have, and you submit your desire to the universe. You can just FEEL that it's working already; you KNOW this car will be yours.

Over the next few days, you start seeing Mustangs wherever you go. New ones, old ones, all different kinds of Mustangs. You excitedly affirm that soon you will be driving one too! A few more days pass, and you start seeing lots of references to horses. You're seeing them online, in books and magazines, on TV...horses everywhere! (Get it? Horse, mustang...)

This continues for a couple of weeks, but now you're starting to get frustrated. Where is your car?! You've been doing all the right things, staying positive, believing with all your heart that it's coming, but it's not coming. You start to doubt. And you start seeing less and less signs. When you do see a Mustang, you feel jealous of the owner. How come HE can have a Mustang but you can't? It's just not fair. You begin focusing more on the lack of having a Mustang, rather than actually having one.

If you continue in this state of mind, you'll kill your manifestation before it can fully form and be delivered!

This is just an example but it clearly shows how a person can be building great energy, receiving feedback from the universe, and then swinging their focus to a place of lack - which ensures their desire will not be delivered.

Have you done this before? I have. Until I learned to recognize that those "signs" were not just wishful thinking or coincidence. They were personalized messages that I was on the right track and my manifestations were working!

The universe will also sometimes send you little reminders to help you stay on track with your manifestation. Like one day I was feeling kind of depressed that one of my desires hadn't manifested yet, and a car drove past me with a license plate that read BHAPPY. Instantly I felt like the universe was saying, "Hey, you can't manifest anything good from a negative state of mind!" I knew that, but I needed the reminder. So I purposely focused on happier thoughts to move myself back into alignment. (And yes, the desire was fulfilled not too long after that.)

Your signs may be different than the examples I've shared here, but you will always recognize them because they will grab your attention in a strong way. You'll FEEL like it's a personal message to you, not just a coincidence. And it will usually come at the perfect time, just when you need it most.

The month of September is a very auspicious time in the Numerological calendar when the a number amplifies with interesting results. Read on to discover more.

September in any year is very important in Numerology as like school terms it's (in some ways) the start of a new year.

As a Numerologist, I still wait until January to say that a new year has truly begun, but I believe that some vibration of the following year starts to have an effect from the September before.

The cross-over date specifically is September the 9th, when universally the world is on the same number Day, Month & Year.

For example - this year September the 9th is a 1 Day, on a 1 Month of a 1 Year.

This is worked out by the following methods:

Year- Universally 2008 is a 1 Year.

2+0+0+8= 10/1+0=1

Making September a 1 Year.

Month- As we're already on a Universal 1 year, this makes January a 2 month, February a 3 month etc....all the way through to September being a 1 Month.

Day- 9 (day) + 1(September is a 1 month this year) = 10/1+0=1 making September the 9th a 1 Day.

So as you now (hopefully) understand why September the 9th is a 1 day, of a 1 month on a 1 year. I will now explain why it is so auspicious.

The number 1 relates to movement, change, new beginnings, originality, invention, innovative ideas and the self.

Universally, the whole of September will be an excellent time for all of these things.

Of course, nothing is ever handed to anyone on a plate so the number 1 requires us to take the first nervous step in whatever direction we'd like to go, first. Then, once the Universe is aware that we've taken the initiative it will continue to support us in our endeavors.

As we empower ourselves to identify how universal patterns within life can and do inform us, we enter into a richness of living as aware and conscious co-communicators and co-creators.

Much of the dream time and non-ordinary states of consciousness expand far beyond the perimeters of logical thinking and conceptualization. These altered states open us to enter into deeper wisdom spaces. Subconscious material has more of a chance of informing us in these spaces, as the deeper patterns held there have opportunities to surface and heal. As we move through the transformative experiences within life, we are empowered to embrace more of our true self. Our soul, personality and body come into harmonious alignment and eventually we incarnate more of our soul's essence which supports us to integrate our essence with our ego. When we commit to become more spiritually conscious in life, the tools and resources make themselves available to us to support us seeing through the many illusions and delusions in life which have robbed us of our vitality and joy. Through becoming aware of themes, rhythms, cycles, symbols and the metaphorical languages inherent within and throughout life, we can open to perceive and even celebrate the true magic inherent in the greater unfolding story, inherent within life. This then empowers us to connect the dots within our own life story. We literally and figuratively "come to our senses."

Through opening to perceive in new ways, the universal life force (the Source), will inform us directly to assist us in the process of freeing our minds and bodies from the limitations posed by this world. We are then empowered to experience life in ways more empowering as unlimited and multi-sensory beings. These multi-sensory capacities facilitate us in remembering our "Divine' nature and just how magnificent we are as spiritual beings. Through this remembering, we move along the return path to evolve our bodies and beings to live life as integrated whole, alive and thriving beings.

I perceive that together we have created the current unfolding story in order to become aware of, and to heal the consciousness patterns of separation in our lives. Divination tools are a potent resource to assist each of us in gaining a more conscious relationship with life as a whole, and will continue to support us through the process of spiritual awakening. Many of us are being empowered to consciously re-member and make whole our relationships with ourselves and all of life. Reading Vedic Books to Find Freedom

On the market today individuals have access to a variety of vedic books where they can learn from the ancient studies that have been taught for thousands of years. Anyone of these vedic books will focus upon individuals being able to find freedom within themselves, which is what several individuals never seem to be able to find throughout their entire lives.

Throughout your childhood there may have been several traumatizing experiences or traumatizing set backs that as a child may have placed set within the back of their mind in hopes of forgetting. What actually happens is some thing much more dramatic within the child that actually stays with them throughout their lives. Then as an adult those childhood memories are still their in the back of their mind where they continue to haunt them daily and as a result these adults begin seeking an answer for becoming free these traumatic experiences.

While a child is more than able to tuck these traumatizing experiences in the back of their minds, as an adult these experiences can be triggered by several events that may happen within their lives. Now the as adults they may begin having dreams that are centered on these traumatizing experiences that you thought you have forgotten had actually happened and you now need to locate some way to release these experiences so that you may once again find freedom and peace within your own self. Several of these vedic books can help these individuals find this type of freedom that they need to locate so that they will be able to have the piece of mind that they need.

Another type of freedom that an adult had as a child was the freedom of imagination such as being able to fly off a building, but at the very last minute being able to catch the wind as it lifts you right before you smack the ground. This is the type of imagination that children will begin to lose as they grown older and become adults. Children have incredible imaginations that as adults we take for granted, but if even try to dream about some of things we imagined as a child we are unable to even begin to comprehend the basics of the simple understanding surrounding this common thinking.

The idea is to become free from the worries that bound you daily throughout your life and during childhood our life was basically a care free world, but as we have grown older the worries have increased as well. The Tarot - Learning From a Recent Workshop

A pagan gathering is a good place to run a Tarot workshop; the participants usually understand what the tarot is and what it can do. Ania and I had a really good attendance - around 30 people crammed into a medieval tent in a field! - so Ania began by asking how many people had tarot decks. The majority of people did and most had some idea of tarot card meanings. The numbers dipped slightly when Ania asked how many had used them to read for themselves, and dropped (substantially) again to the question of how many had used them with others. Lack of confidence is always an issue with the Tarot; and there's also the issue of learning at least 78 meanings - more, if you use reversals.

One person said her main problem was how each card was affected by the others around it. This was something that worried me when I was learning. But somehow, after a while, you do begin to see how they work. Using spreads - as we usually do - each card has its specific meaning modified by the position. For example, if you found the Eight of Swords in the position of 'central issue', and the Four of Pentacles (Discs) in the Environment position, you would probably say that the client is stuck with old ways of thinking or ideas of duty, and they need to cut the cords that bind them to those outdated views. The Four of Pentacles shows us that this is mainly about money, but also where they fit into their environment - perhaps they are holding on like grim death to ideas of money and security. The client has probably gone around and around this problem mentally (swords) but the combination of material security (discs) and their old issues have kept them stuck. As a foundation card, you then might find the Six of Cups (nostalgia, looking back) and know that they've previously had emotional issues about moving forward, and this has of course contributed to the issue. But if they approached the problem from a different point of view, they might realise they have actually moved on. And so you go on.

Tarot reading, as Ania pointed out, is really a combination of life skills, being able to read imagery, and intuitive knowledge. You really don't have to be psychic, just aware. I've met a number of psychic people who can't read tarot particularly well because the messages in their heads get in the way. On the other hand, you find words, images, or intuitive 'knowing' do start 'coming in' as soon as you begin to trust your own abilities. That seems to be the way with intuition - the more you trust it, the better it works.

The subject of which deck to use also came up. I would encourage people to choose their cards that best "speak to them", using a combination of feeling and intuition. There will be one deck that calls to you, and that will be the one you need to work with. (By the way many people have heard that you shouldn't buy tarot for yourself. This is superstition and quite counter-productive, in my view. At least if you buy them, you have an emotional, intuitive and material investment in them!)

I ended the workshop by giving on-the-spot one-card readings from the deck for anyone who asked - it is amazing to see this in practice. As always, it is a mystery how the cards work, but when you see how accurate even one card can be, you remember that the tarot itself is a mystery - and all the better for it.
